Art is a product of its time. It is a result of the social, political, and religious context in which it was made. Because of its consequential nature, it has become the center of focus for historians interested in revisionist theories about the representation of its subjects. In the mid 90s, Art and Social Context changed its name to ‘Fine Art in Context’ to locate it clearly within what became known as the ‘Fine Arts Field’. (The undergraduate course, now entering its 25th year of operation, still continues today, now under the slightly modified title, ‘Fine Art and Context’).
